NY Governor in Waiting Supported Police "Shoot to Wound" Law
By Rizzuto

Wed Mar 12, 2008 - How can you possibly even consider a law which would penalize police officers who kill when shooting rather than wound? Does he understand that the nature of the human body and a projectile moving 600 feet per second means that an inch in either direction means the difference between life and death?

This from todays NY Post:

The man who could be governor, David Paterson, once sponsored highly controversial legislation in the state Senate requiring police to shoot to harm, not kill.

The current lieutenant governor, a Democrat from Harlem, also pushed a bill that would have allowed non-citizen residents to vote in local elections.

He has since disavowed the police bill and dropped his "active" support of the voting measure.

At least he's seen the error of his ways. But come on, this seems like a very child-like bill to have at one time supported...

Yeah, good thing too since that is the most assinine law that would have ever been passed. As a vet that has fired rounds in anger I can tell you for a fact that when you shoot, you shoot to kill. And I mean that you are aiming at the largest part of the body (center mass) and are going to shoot until the threat is down. Anyone that suggests something like this has NEVER fired a weapon, and if they have they know nothing about racing heart, pumped up, sweaty palms, scared out of your mind, then having to return fire... Besides police ROEs on shooting is that they have to be in fear for their life. Meaning someone is trying to kill them and they have went through the escalation procedures to pull a weapon and use it. Idiots.

Could it be that he has bought into the "Police kill Blacks" stories, and is looking for a way to prevent other "on purpose" killings of them? I have a very bad feeling that NY is in for a very rough time with him a Governor. All except criminals and Illegal Immigrants that is.
