Obama's Hypocrisy on Charitable Givings By Rizzuto Wed Mar 26, 2008 - I don't fault anyone for giving or not giving to charity. It's a matter of personal preference. But Obama's excuse for skimping on the charity from 2000-2004 just reeks of hypocrisy. This from today's New York Post: Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, gave less than 1 percent of their total $1.2 million income from 2000 through 2004 to charity, according to tax returns his campaign released yesterday. Their total charitable donations for those four years totaled $10,770 - a small chunk of the couple's total income while Obama was an Illinois state senator, and a lowball figure compared to other politicians.Perfectly reasonable explanation. A young couple, paying off loans and caring for children. But then I caught this from the Wall Street Journal: ...having cornered himself among Democratic activists whose attitudes toward Social Security reform range from demagoguery to denial, Mr. Obama has recently veered sharply left. He now proposes to solve the looming Social Security shortfall exclusively with higher taxes. So wait a second...people who make over 200K a year can still be somewhat struggling to make ends meet, but they can afford to be handing more of their dollars over to the government? Does this standard apply to everyone BUT the Obamas?
