US Ranks 22nd in Stability in British Report

Wed Mar 26, 2008 - According to a recent study by the British-based Jane's Information Group, America ranks 22nd in prosperity and stability. This from Reuters:
Meanwhile, the United States failed to rank among the top tier of the world's most stable countries in the ratings, which measured 235 countries, territories and entities according to two-dozen stability factors.

Vatican City was ranked most stable, followed by Sweden, Luxembourg and Monaco. But Jane's judged the United States to be only the 22nd most stable country -- just below Australia and Portugal -- due to international drug trafficking and the proliferation of small arms within U.S. society.
Notice they didn't say "gun violence" but "proliferation of small arms", this means that the right to keep and bear arms itself is judged as a "destabilizing factor".

Under this logic, Stalin's Soviet Union, and Hitler's Germany might have been considered models of stability and prosperity. You know what else is stable? A graveyard...
