Olbermann Dismisses Legitimate Criticism of Obama's 'Present' Votes By Rizzuto Thu Apr 03, 2008 - Although Olbermann is 100% right about the accuracy of Tony Snow's comments, his dismissal of the criticism that Obama voted "present" on bills while in the Illinois State Senate is dishonest for several reasons. First, since Obama completely lacks a record in the US Senate, the majority of his record comes from his time in the Illinois State Senate. His votes there are no less free game than are his votes in the US Senate. Second, and perhaps more important, to reduce the present votes to a mere percentage of all of the votes he made in the Illinois State Senate (3%), is to belie the importance of those bills which he chose to not vote on. Even fellow Democrats have been critical of him for taking the easy way out on many controversial issues. For example: -In 1997 voted "present" on SB 71, which lowered the first offense of carrying a concealed weapon from a felony to a misdemeanor and raised the penalty of subsequent offenses. -In 1999, Obama voted "present" on SB 759, a bill that required mandatory adult prosecution for firing a gun on or near school grounds. -In 1999, Obama voted "present" on HB 854 that protected the privacy of sex-abuse victims by allowing petitions to have the trial records sealed. -In 2001, Obama voted "present" on two parental notification abortion bills (HB 1900 and SB 562), and he voted "present" on a series of bills (SB 1093, 1094, 1095) that sought to protect a child if it survived a failed abortion. -In 2001, Obama voted "present" on SB 609, a bill prohibiting strip clubs and other adult establishments from being within 1,000 feet of schools, churches, and daycares. But I do have to say, that Olbermann's sill voices and impressions are very Edward R. Murrow-esq. Update: Thanks to Hot Air for this little gem from the NRO: "It took Saturday Night Live to bring some fairness to this election," [Pennsylvania Governor Ed] Rendell said, referring to the show's now famous skit lampooning the media's crush on Obama. "It's stunning. Does Keith Olbermann get checks from the Obama campaign?"

Can we expect anything better from Olbermann? This is the same scum bag that made the adult diaper remark about McCain. One day if the Gods will it I will run into him. There are very few people in this world I have a visceral hate for, but he is one. I want to see if he can maintain his arrogant, elitist persona when I knock him on his ass. |
