Maxine Waters Lays out the Liberal Agenda...Socialization By Rizzuto Fri May 23, 2008 - Link: sevenload.com Oh dear Maxine…you’re going to blow it for the Democrats by your honesty. We all know that "socialization" of industry is the eventual goal of liberal policy but you probably shouldn’t say so. This isn’t the first time I’ve written about the eventual socialization of the oil industry, but let’s review a few of the ways in which this is a bad idea: 1. The government will inevitably place a price cap on gasoline, whereas at this moment, market forces control the price. This might sound nice, but what happens when OPEC decides to cut production? The government run oil company will start to hemorrhage money as it will not be able to turn a profit or even break even off its capped gas prices. The government will have a few options to cover the shortfall; Tax hikes or Rationing (cost control). In the end we’ll wind up paying for it one way or another. 2. You think that our governments connection to Saudis and other OPEC states is shady now, just wait until oil prices become directly linked to American foreign policy. The government will be more likely to pander to these countries if they don’t have the oil industry as a scapegoat for high prices. As Wilkow said this afternoon, the question shouldn’t be what do leftists want the government to control; the question should be what don’t they want to control? Healthcare? Check… Energy? Check… Oil? Check… Transportation? Check… Postal Service? Check… Retirement? Check… What’s left? Food? Just wait until this “Global Food Crisis” talk reaches a fevered pitch…they’re going to want that too… Just a quick digression. The woman and man at the end of the clip who begin to laugh at Waters are fellow Democrats Betty Sutton of Ohio, and Steve Cohen of Tennessee.
