Obama and Dems once again taking McCain out of context
By Rizzuto

Wed Jun 11, 2008 - Yes, the Dems are once again wetting themselves over a comment taken completely out of context. The funny thing is, is that it's more or less the same comment they took out of context last time. This from the Politico:
The exchange that has Democrats licking their chops began when co-host Matt Lauer asked about the surge strategy in Iraq: “If it's working Senator, do you now have a better estimate of when American forces can come home from Iraq?”

McCain replied: “No, but that's not too important. What’s important is the casualties in Iraq, Americans are in South Korea, Americans are in Japan, American troops are in Germany. That’s all fine. American casualties and the ability to withdraw; we will be able to withdraw. General [David] Petraeus is going to tell us in July when he thinks we are.

“But the key to it is that we don't want any more Americans in harm's way. That way, they will be safe, and serve our country and come home with honor and victory, not in defeat, which is what Senator Obama's proposal would have done. I’m proud of them. And they're doing a great job. And we are succeeding and it's fascinating that Senator Obama still doesn't realize that.”
Take a wild guess which line they've jumped on...

If you chose, "No, but that's not too important", you'd be correct. Of course, it's only those 6 words (7 if you count the contracted "that's" as 2...but I digress) that are important, while the full statement is meaningless.

Of course, this statement is more or less a restatement of McCain's much maligned "100 years in Iraq" statement which was similarly taken out of context. These forms of attacks are becoming a pattern for the Obama camp.

I love how liberals will tell me that I'm taking Reverend Wright's comments out of context by not playing his entire sermon when he declared "God bless America? Nah, nah, nah...God damn America!", but important foreign policy statements should be judged not in their full context, but based solely on the first sentence. Please...it's so transparent and phony.

Is this seriously the best foreign policy commentary we can expect from the Obama campaign? Reality has completely undercut Senator Obama's Iraq position and he has yet to make any serious changes to to his policy to reflect these changes. How about some substance Senator instead of disingenuous and superficial attacks meant to mislead and distract American's from seeing the stark contrast in credability with which you and Senator McCain talk about Iraq?
